I have read that a number of sculptors rejected the block
of marble that Michelangelo selected for his masterpiece David – they saw too
many flaws, it was too risky. When Michelangelo looked at the marble he saw
David – he saw what others did not see.
Once the sculpting began, all that was not David was
chipped away.
