I grew up thinking that because
I was an American that I was a Christian. Had it not been for my coworker,
Howard Wall, I might still think that. The phrase “God and Country” may be good
for the country, any country, but it is not good for the Gospel; when the
Gospel and church cannot be distinguished from the country, any country…then
the Gospel cannot be distinguished, in other words, people don’t really know
what it is; they can’t identify it apart from society.
