When God says, “You shall have
no other gods before me,” that means in His presence, before His face. It doesn’t
mean that we make Him number one and then rank other things beneath Him. We don’t
bring anything else into His temple – He alone is God, there is no one else or
nothing else. Jesus calls His followers to leave things and allegiances and
people and the world and to follow Him. All
relationships and interests and priorities can only be sorted out as we worship
God alone and love Him with all we have and all we are, and as we love others.
